Words That Move Us: Reading, Feeling & Dancing Tango Lyrics

$50.00

There are three pillars of Argentine Tango: the music, the dance, and the poetry of the lyrics. Yet many tango dancers—even those who speak Spanish—dance without paying much attention to the lyrics. Most of us engage deeply with two of these pillars, the music and the dance, while overlooking the third. But, tango poetry is every bit as rich and essential to the art form.

When Liz Sabatiuk began producing the Humans of Tango Podcast, she noticed that many of the experienced dancers she interviewed frequently referenced tango lyrics. As she explored them herself, she discovered a world filled with love, loss, friendship, neighborhood life, longing, hope, and countless other human experiences. She gradually realized that, like many dancers, she had been missing an important dimension of tango.

This realization led her to a study of tango lyrics and their translation, uncovering how this often-forgotten layer can elevate and inform our dancing. While understanding the words is not necessary to enjoy tango, exploring the lyrics can deepen our appreciation of the music, inspire our movement, and strengthen our connection with our partner.

Don't miss this special opportunity to experience tango with its third pillar present in both heart and mind. Come prepared to discover the emotions and ideas expressed in tango lyrics and to explore how they can enrich your dance.

All levels of dancing experience are welcome to register.
